A warm welcome to the two new families who moved into the village just before Christmas. Ken and Rosie have moved from Weston into Little Orchard and James and Chrissy have moved from Cross into Pippin House with their little boy Thomas. I hope you will all enjoy living here.
Thanks must go to the Village lunch team who served the most delicious Christmas lunch in December. About 60 people came from Weare and the surrounding villages to enjoy a choice of main course and pudding, shortbread, mince pies, tea and coffee as well as some delicious mulled wine. Thank you to everyone on the rota and to all who support the event throughout the year. The lunch is in the Memorial Hall in Lower Weare on the second Monday of each month from 12.15pm onwards. A meat and vegetarian choice is always available and other diets can be catered for if we know in advance. Please phone Anna Fox, 732239.
The village tree looked particularly grand this year adorned with the usual decorations bearing greetings from those in the village to their friends and neighbours as well as a rather grand crowning star! Thank you to Jackie and Mike for your creative and construction skills! Thank you to Tracey, Heather and Trevor for organising the mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies, and to Ken and Nick for leading the carol singing under the clear star lit sky.
Sue and Nick Bennett are organising a Valentines Dance on Saturday 13 February for which all the tickets have been sold. They would like to thank everyone for their support and are looking forward to a fun evening.
Thank you to everyone who came to my Coffee Morning in December. It was lovely to see so many people and we raised £201 towards the printing costs of Contact Magazine.
Photos of the Village New Year walk will soon be on the Village website.

News for Weare - Contact July / August 2009The village field was the perfect setting for a picnic at the beginning of July. The midday shower eased off and skies soon cleared ( I think there was even a little sunshine) and a good crowd from the village made their way through the woods and up onto the field to enjoy lunch and a good chat. The children had great fun in the woods, especially as the earlier showers had made lots of glorious mud to roll about in! Many thanks to Geoff, Bill and William for cutting the grass earlier that morning. Hilary Hugh News from Weare April/May Issue A warm welcome to the village to the Stephens family who have moved into Pipers Close. I hope you will enjoy living in the village. Best wishes to Janice and David who have moved to Wedmore where I hope they will be very happy. The Progressive Supper will be on Saturday 9th May. This is always an enjoyable evening and a good opportunity to see your friends and neighbours. Each couple cooks one course for between 6 and 8 people (including yourselves) and then you visit other homes in the village for your other two courses, followed by coffee at the end of the evening when everyone meets up again. Please let Rita Hanson or Hilary Hugh know if you would like to take part, or if you would like to find out a bit more about it - by the end of April, please. The Village Lunches continue to be as popular as ever. They are on the second Monday of each month, except in April when it will be on Monday 20th, due to a clash with Easter Monday! The lunches are served at the Memorial Hall from 12.15 pm and cost £3.50 for adults and £2 for children. Please phone Anna Fox if you would like to come but have specific dietary requirements so we can make sure that you are catered for, otherwise just turn up! A vegetarian option is always available. Please note the change of address for the village web site which is now www.wearevillage.net. On the web site you will find information about village events, clubs and organisations, as well as some lovely photos of the village. thank you to Ailene for getting the site up and running. It looks great! As we move into Spring there will no doubt be requests for help with the church tidy up and at the village field. Please look out for posters advertising dates and times on the village notice board. The Flower Show Committee are busy working on this year's Flower Show, which will be on Saturday 29th August with a family event following on in the evening. This is the August Bank Holiday weekend so please put the date in your diary. Hilary Hugh ------- News from Weare January/February Issue Congratulations to the brilliant performers in Crook Peak Parish and surrounding villages who kept us so well entertained during the run up to Christmas. Firstly, the Allerton Players whose play "Dick Turpin" had the sell out audiences chuckling night after night in Weare Memorial Hall and secondly, it was the turn of villagers from Biddisham (and a few others) whose performance of "A Christmas Carol" in Biddisham Church was fantastic. Well done and thank you to those who helped with all the cooking and preparations for the Village Lunch in December. It was truly delicious fayre and hugely appreciated by the firty or so who came to enjoy each others company. There is also some very sad news to report. Norma Crabtree died just before Christmas and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. John Lamb sadly died on Boxing Day. He was a true gentleman who will also be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Norma and John's families and dear friends at this sad time. Thank you to those who supported my coffee morning just before Christmas. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and it was lovely to see old friends catch up with each other. We raised £134 towards the publication of Contact magazine. The Christmas Tree in the village has proved to be a huge success again and has provided a lovely focal point on many family walks. Thank you to Tracey Marshall and Heather Whitehead for organising everything so well, even the carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine. a special thank you must go to Ken who controlled the carol singers admirably!
